Schiphol: 61.7 million travelers in 2023, 10 million fewer than in 2019

Of the almost 61.7 million travelers in 2023, 39.1 million traveled directly to or from Schiphol. 36 percent of travelers had a transfer at Schiphol. This is more than 11 million unique transfer passengers, who are counted twice (on arrival and departure).

The number of flight movements increased by 11 percent compared to 2022 (397,646), but is still 11 percent below the 2019 level (496,826). Of the 441,963 flights in 2023, 425,994 were passenger flights and 15,969 were cargo flights.

The Netherlands was connected via Schiphol to 305 direct destinations, 126 of which were intercontinental. Seven destinations were added, and flights were no longer flown to 16 destinations.

43 million travelers went to or came from a destination in Europe, 18 million to or from an intercontinental destination. Great Britain was the most popular destination, followed by Spain and the United States.

Schiphol handled 1.37 million tons of cargo, a decrease of 4.8 percent compared to 2022 (1.44 million tons). There were 15,969 full cargo flights. That is a decrease of 12.9 percent compared to 2022 (18,340 cargo flights).

Regional airports
In contrast to Schiphol itself, the two largest regional airports of the Schiphol Group did set new passenger records. Eindhoven Airport welcomed 6.8 million passengers and Rotterdam The Hague Airport more than 2.2 million. This means they are both above the 2019 level.
