Because in practice this means that your battery will always be partially empty, right?

Correct, although you only need a small “share” for a house. With 5kWh you can go a long way.

What if you have to drive unexpectedly? Availability is also very important.

Most EV owners buy an EV based on the “worst case scenario” range. In winter, -10, winter tires, and then you want to be able to do a return trip of 200 km; that idea. In most cases the weather is not that bad and you have a range of 300 km with the same car. If you unexpectedly have to go somewhere where you are just 10% short, you can drive slower or grab the fast charger. Fast charging from 20% to 80% often takes about 20 minutes. From 20% to 30% – the 10% you’re missing – a lot faster.

I also wonder if this leads to faster wear.

Yes, but not alot. For example, with 200 km you can reduce the battery from 80% to 20%. I think with that 50kWh you can power your house for 10 days (together with solar panels, charge during the day and use 5kWh in the evening).

I don’t drive much and work from home, but I do need a car when I have to go somewhere. Hanging a lease EV (where battery degradation does not interest me at all because it is a lease after all) on my house is ideal for giving a stationary car a function.

Wouldn’t it be better to just have a separate battery for your house?

Yes, but that does not make using an EV as a home battery pointless.

All in all, I see v2g as an important feature for a future EV. Especially if netting disappears, I will make heavy use of the feature to charge during the day and live on battery power in the evening or at night.
