Schiphol finds situation manageable again after busy Monday

According to a spokesperson, it is now much less busy than Monday. “At Departure Hall 1, travelers are standing in line outside, up to half of the tent, but that line just continues. It is not such an extremely long line as we saw yesterday,” said the spokesman.

Schiphol will have to process 162,000 passengers on Tuesday. “We have a manageable operation for today, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. It is too early to say anything about the weekend,” said the spokesman. Mondays are usually extremely busy.

According to Schiphol, the chaos on Monday was caused by many passengers arriving much earlier than 4 hours in advance. “That means that those travelers are standing in a line that really shouldn’t be there. That starts very early in the morning, then we have the after-effects all day,” says the spokesperson.

In addition, there was again a shortage of security guards at the airport. This was partly due to sick leave. Schiphol had increased the maximum number of passengers on Monday after stricter measures in recent weeks.
