'Politically motivated' investigation? Trump's GOP appears like Nixon's GOP

Letters to the Editor

April 5, 2023

To the editor: I get bored with listening to the time period “politically motivated” from many Republicans relating to former President Trump’s alleged prison exercise in hush cash payouts, as if saying that makes the investigations inappropriate or improper. (“How Kevin McCarthys Bakersfield is reacting to Trumps indictment,” April 3)

I dont recall that time period getting used relating to the Trump College settlement of $25 million in 2017 from an investigation that began in 2010. Nor was it used for the misuse of Donald J. Trump Basis funds, leading to a $2-million settlement in 2019.

Would justice be higher served if Trump had been only a New York actual property investor?

If the Republicans used that time period “politically motivated” within the investigation of President Nixon’s function within the Watergate break-in and cover-up, it actually did not stick after the nation discovered the details.

And this is a thought: What if these “politically motivated” investigations give candidates second ideas on operating for workplace? It would discourage the criminally minded from searching for workplace, realizing their previous actions could be dug up. That will be the most effective consequence of “politically motivated” investigations.

To the editor: Based on Greg Perrone, president of the Better Bakersfield Republican Meeting, “The left has a batting common of zero in opposition to Donald Trump.”

Who desires to inform him that the left is batting .750 (three for 4) in elections (2018, 2020 and 2022) in opposition to Trump?

To the editor: As a retired deputy district lawyer for Los Angeles, I get actually upset when dangerous authorized data is put out to the general public.

Within the article reporting the response in Bakersfield to the Trump indictment, Perrone is quoted as saying, “The legislation says harmless till confirmed responsible.”

This isn’t the legislation. You’re

presumed

harmless till confirmed responsible. The presumption doesn’t make you harmless.

I used to be a deputy DA for 37 years; earlier than then, I used to be a deputy metropolis lawyer for Los Angeles. I noticed individuals get into bother due to their mistaken assumptions concerning the legislation.
