Planet killer’ asteroids pose no threat to Earth for at least 1,000 years — but smaller rocks could still be a problem

Relaxation simple: Earth in all probability will not be creamed by a killer asteroid within the subsequent 1,000 years.

New analysis accepted for publication in The Astronomical Journal and accessible on the preprint server arXiv.org (opens in new tab) finds that not one of the kilometer-wide (0.6 mile) asteroids that journey close to Earth are more likely to hit the planet within the subsequent millennium.
