The time has come, the OPPO Watch 3 is on the way and will probably be launched on August 10. It is the first smartwatch with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset.

OPPO last launched a smartwatch based on Wear OS last year. The Watch 2 was launched at the end of July, but never made it to the market in our region. However, the Chinese company still sells the first generation OPPO Watch in our regions. Presumably, if the rumors are right, that will soon change. OPPO would like to launch the Watch 3 on August 10, reports Digital Chat Station.

OPPO Watch 3 met W5 Gen 1-chipset

The usually reliable rumor spreader does not report any further details about the smartwatch in his post on Weibo. However, Digital Chat Station previously announced that the watch will be available in three variants. At least one of those variants is powered by Qualcomm’s Wear 5 Gen 1 chipset, which the company recently introduced. At the launch, the US chip company confirmed that OPPO and Mobvoi would be the first partners to deploy the W5 Gen 1 SoC.

With the new Snapdragon chipset, OPPO saves a lot on battery consumption. Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 is up to 50 percent more energy efficient and 30 percent faster than the Wear 4100 chipsets from 2019. How this works out in practice, of course, remains to be seen. Rumors about the OPPO Watch 3 do indicate an improved battery life, but to what extent is not known.

Further details about the smartwatch have not yet been confirmed. It did leak out that OPPO would be planning to use an LTPO screen with a variable refresh rate. The Watch 3 also contains Apollo’s 4 Plus chipset, to transfer light tasks from the Snapdragon Wear chipset to a more economical processor. Finally, OPPO’s watch will be equipped with ECG and will appear in black, dark gray and light gold.

OPPO meets Apple Watch design

Rumor spreader Digital Chat Station has also released images of the OPPO Watch 3 following the launch date. Like the first and second generation OPPO smartwatches, the watch is very similar to Apple’s smartwatches. On the render we see two designs, one with a rotating ring, while the other only has a push button. It is not known which design OPPO will prefer for the W5 Gen 1 powered model of the Watch 3.
