Lily Allen Responds to Backlash Over Her Comments About “Nepo Babies”

Lily Allen has extra to declare.

Because the dialogue of nepotism in Hollywood continues to develop, the “Smile” singer—who’s the daughter of actor Keith Allen and movie producer Alison Owen—not too long ago voiced her opinions on “nepo infants,” writing in a Dec. 19 tweet that “y’all must be worrying about are those working for authorized companies, those working for banks, and those working in politics, If we’re speaking about actual world penalties and robbing individuals of alternative.”

The comment was met with some backlash on social media, with one Twitter consumer commenting, “So go have these discussions then? Nobody is stopping you. However when a DIRECT BENEFICIARY of a problematic system factors in the wrong way and goes ‘Hey look over there!’ I am not prepared to allow them to distract me.”

Now, Lily is defending herself and clarifying her ideas. “Look, I appear to have riled individuals up with my feedback about nepo infants,” she wrote in a Dec. 20 tweet. “I’m practically 40 years of age and am very happy, the truth is I feel it is essential to reveal what a privileged upbringing I’ve had and the way that has created so many alternatives for me.”
