Groningen Airport: enough space to take over flights from Schiphol

Earlier this summer, Groningen Airport also offered to take over flights from Schiphol. TUI was interested in this, but finally gave up due to the limited opening hours of the northern airport. Instead, flights were moved to Rotterdam and Liège in Belgium. Rotterdam has no more space for next autumn.

Schiphol released the news on Tuesday that it would again set a maximum number of travelers in September and October. In those months, respectively 67,500 and 69,500 travelers can depart. As a result, Schiphol expects an average of 3,500 too many passengers at the airport every day during and around the autumn holidays, for which a solution must be found.

De Groot regrets that the choice of Schiphol has once again created a negative image of the aviation sector. It was foreseeable that September and October would be difficult months, she said. “We all want to discover the world again, which means that there is a huge demand for flights. Then it is a pity that we as a sector are not able to meet that demand well.”
