Gigaset stops supporting smart home devices due to financial problems – IT Pro – News

Gigaset’s smart home products will no longer be usable from March 29. The manufacturer is discontinuing the cloud services of its smart devices. Insolvency proceedings were started in January, but no buyer was found for the company’s smart home branch.

Gigaset reports on its site that the apps for smart home products, network sensors and devices will ‘no longer be usable’ from March 29, 2024. Active subscriptions will be canceled no later than this date.

The German Gigaset is known for its cordless DECT telephones (digital enhanced cordless telecommunications). The manufacturer also offers smart home products, such as smart security cameras and sensors.

In September last year, Gigaset filed for bankruptcy because it could not meet its financial obligations. The company tried to make a fresh start by selling part of its business activities.

In January it was announced that the Chinese electronic toy manufacturer VTech acquires the assets and German production facilities of Gigaset’s telecom branch. It was not possible to find a buyer for the company’s smart home activities, Gigaset said.
