Whale watchers off the coast of California just lately witnessed a particularly uncommon sight — a younger white orca (Orcinus orca). The calf, which was virtually utterly white aside from darkish patches on its dorsal fin and snout, most definitely has a pigment-related situation often known as leucism, specialists say.

The unusually coloured calf, nicknamed “Frosty,” is a 3-year-old male that was already identified to whale watchers and orca researchers within the space. On April 24, a whale-watching vessel noticed Frosty together with six different orcas round 8 miles (13 kilometers) off the coast of Malibu, based on Newsweek (opens in new tab). The vessel then alerted different boats within the space, together with a vessel belonging to Newport Coastal Journey, whose crew filmed (opens in new tab) Frosty with a drone after they arrived on the scene.
