Chairman of the supervisory authority of Dutch security services resigns immediately – IT Pro – News

Nico van Eijk, chairman of the CTIVD, is resigning immediately. Outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced this in a letter to Parliament and spoke of ‘disturbed relations’ within the committee that supervises the Dutch security services AIVD and MIVD.

The precise reasons for Van Eijk’s departure from the Supervisory Committee of the Intelligence and Security Services have not been announced. In the Letter to Parliament Rutte writes that the current composition of the CTIVD does not provide a basis for restoring relations within the committee, which implies that there are differences of opinion or conflict within the committee.

Van Eijk has been chairman of the CTIVD since 2019. The committee checks whether the General Intelligence and Security Service and Military Intelligence and Security Service comply with the rules. There is no definitive replacement for Van Eijk yet. The House of Representatives may nominate three candidates. The cabinet will then elect a new chairman. Until a replacement is found, the longest-serving member of the committee will take over Van Eijk’s role.
