British watchdog fines company for sending 31,000 spam messages – IT Pro – News

A British financial services provider has been ordered to pay a fine of £50,000 by the Information Commissioner’s Office, or ICO. The company sent more than 31,000 spam text messages to people who had not given their consent.

The messages were sent between March 2022 and April 2022. Debt assistance was offered, among other things. ICO writes that LADH Limited had sent the messages without the recipients’ consent. It was also not possible for recipients to unsubscribe via the messages, although it is legally required to offer this option. The privacy regulator has therefore imposed a fine of 50,000 pounds on the service provider, which amounts to 58,000 euros.

LADH Limited said a third party had confirmed that the individuals in the dataset had given consent to be contacted. However, the consent was not recorded in writing and the third party had only confirmed this verbally to the financial services provider, the ICO said.
