Azerbaijan frees 8 Armenian detainees, France-EU mediation –

Eight Armenian detainees were released from Azerbaijan, French President Emmanuel Macron and European Council President Charles Michel announced Monday. France sent a plane to repatriate them to Yerevan, says France 24.

“Eight Armenian detainees were released from Azerbaijan and transferred from Baku to Yerevan,” the French head of state said on his Twitter account on Monday 7 February.

These Armenian detainees were released from Azerbaijian as part of negotiations led by France and the European Union, the French portal says.

France sent a plane that allowed them to return to Armenia after mediation conducted with the EU, explains the Elysée.

On Twitter, Charles Michel hailed a new “sign of positive development” after the meeting between Emmanuel Macron, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian. “The European Union supports stability and prosperity in the region,” he said.
