5 People Missing After Submersible Disappears Near Titanic Wreckage


A submersible has gone lacking within the North Atlantic close to the positioning of the Titanic wreckage.

The disappearance has prompted the U.S. Coast Guard to begin a seek for the lacking submersible, in addition to its five-person crew.

“The @USCG is trying to find a 21-foot submersible from the Canadian analysis vessel Polar Prince,” the Coast Guard tweeted June 19. “The 5 individual crew submerged Sunday morning, and the crew of the Polar Prince misplaced contact with them roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes into the vessel’s dive.”

Based on NBC Information, the submersible was part of an OceanGate Expeditions tour—which explores the wreckage of the RMS Titanic, the ship that infamously sank in 1912—and is situated roughly 900 nautical miles east of Cape Cod, Mass.

“Our whole focus is on the crew members within the submersible and their households,” OceanGate stated in an announcement, obtained by the outlet, “we’re deeply grateful for the intensive help we now have acquired from a number of authorities companies and deep sea firms in our efforts to reestablish contact with the submersible.”
