It goes without saying that both Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif are two of the most talented dancers in the film industry today. Vaibhavi Merchant who is one of the most established choreographers in the industry recently addressed the comparisons being made between Deepika Padukone’s dance number Besharam Rang in Pathaan and Katrina Kaif’s song Leke Prabhu Ka Naam from Tiger 3.
Vaibhavi explained how both the characters are completely different and that’s how she approached them. On choreographing Besharam Rang, she mentioned that Deepika’s character had no backstory. She was quoted on a leading entertainment portal saying, “Deepika had also done a bunch of traditional roles, like Padmaavat. So when she came into Besharam Rang, she wanted to go all guns blazing. So I didn’t want to shoot it like a typical Hindi dance song.”
Elaborating on Katrina’s character Zoya in Tiger 3 and her dance number, the choreographer shared, “Zoya is the wife of Tiger and the mother of a 10-year-old. So it’s all character-driven. Rubai is meant to entice Pathaan, Zoya is dancing with her husband. She’s just celebrating.”
Furthermore, she added how Deepika is a silent worker who did her rehearsals without making too much noise and did her homework. She worked on her own costumes for Besharam Rang and comes with a certain ease. About Katrina, she revealed that the actress does her homework too but is also anxious about disappointing anyone. Hence she would even get approval from Vaibhavi for her costumes.
