Rumor: Microsoft wants to put AI assistant Copilot in Windows 10 – Computer – News

After reading your post I get the feeling that you are hoping for the best. That in itself is a bonus. But don’t you forget that if you hope for the best, you unfortunately also have to prepare yourself for the worst outcome?

You indicate that people now attend meetings better informed. Haven’t you heard that man is (terribly) lazy by nature? So expect even less informed participants, and the participants who normally take the trouble to inform themselves will now rely purely on the summary that whatever AI solution has produced for them.

There is no doubt that AI plows through data sets faster. But trends are also quite easy for humans to recognize, as soon as you can overlap graphical representations of datasets. Something that Grafana is not very good at in my experience.

You also claim that AI produces summary texts. Then my question is: have you ever worked with it? In my experience, ChatGPT and Bard are a lot less successful than you report in your post. In addition, texts are generated by AI, then the recipients of this text throw it through a (different) AI to summarize it. A lot of energy is now expended by both AIs for a very short text that you put together and sent yourself quickly enough.

Anyway, then I get back to my point: humans are lazy by nature.

Is AI useful? In many cases, yes. But it is also quite praised by its proponents and Microsoft is trying very hard to shove it down everyone’s throat, even if that is not even desirable. AI wouldn’t have left such a bad taste in my mouth if Microsoft wasn’t pushing it so hard.

And then complains that they have to cough up so much in energy costs that they immediately introduce strict user restrictions. As if Microsoft’s left hand has absolutely no idea what the right hand is doing. And unfortunately I see that more and more in the latest versions of their products.

AI generates a lot that is presented to me by people I approached for their knowledge/skills. It can therefore be said that their knowledge/skills could just as well have been produced by AI. Besides insulting me with their AI, why would I ask for knowledge/skills again? You can also complete an AI prompt yourself.
