Rhythm Sprout tunes for PC and Console

In the late 2000s rhythm games seemed to be everywhere. This is the heyday of games such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band, but there were plenty of other titles out there that used rhythm-based mechanics as their main thrust of play. Bringing things up to the present this isn’t a genre that’s dead but as a player base, we’ve definitely moved onto other tropes so we’re seeing less music-related fun happening in favor of other things. History lesson over, it’s time to bring in today’s new entry into our gaming lives. Rhythm Sprout: Sick Beats and Bad Sweets, (whoever titled this game deserves a medal,) is about to hit PC and Console and is going heavy on rhythm-based fun.

Developed by SURT and published by the folk at tinyBuild, Rhythm Sprout: Sick Beats and Bad Sweets will be hitting the dancefloor on Playstation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and of course PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on February 1st. That should give you plenty of options if you’re already feeling this musical adventure and want to bust some moves.

In Rhythm Sprout: Sick Beats and Bad Sweets, you’re being invited to pick up your sword as Sprout, the chosen onion, and spring across the vegetable kingdom in a bid to eradicate it from the cavity-causing crusaders of Sugar Daddy‘s army. In doing this you’ll take on sugary foes in a dance to the death in rhythmic combat across hand-crafted levels. You’ll have to be on your toes if you’re going to help Princess Cauliflower retain control of her kale realm and protect the adorable veggie folk.

Your quest to defeat the cavity-inducing menace in Rhythm Sprout: Sick Beats and Bad Sweets will take you all over the vegetable kingdom from the Winter Woods to a Haunted Mansion and beyond. As you explore the world around you, you’ll engage in combat with new foes, from loathsome gingerbread people to wicked ice cream cones.

In your battles, you’ll be slashing along to beats from different genres; including K-Pop, metal, disco, and more. You’ll be able to master a variety of modes too. Level modifiers and high-sync beatmaps are there to create an endless number of remixed stages. Not only will all of this give you hours of replayability packed neatly into your game but should also provide a decent amount of challenge for even the most adept rhythm fans amongst you.

From hand-drawn artistry to an original soundtrack, Rhythm Sprout will delight rhythm game veterans and beginners alike with its sweet twist on the genre,” said Jon Vait, CEO at SURT. “Extensive music genres, level modifiers, and well-crafted beatmaps are brought to life to create an addicting experience that will be hard to put down.

I’m a massive fan of the rhythm genre. It’s the sort of thing that comes with practice, but when you get good you’re only going to get better. You’re very unlikely to hit a difficulty wall and just get stuck. I say this, (with the utmost respect,) with the exception of a very particular Dragonforce track from another very popular game in which you need to be a member of the band or a literal beat god to be able to master. If you don’t know what I’m talking about go and have a google. I’m not going to explain because I can’t afford another round of therapy sessions. This aside, it’s lovely to see that this genre isn’t dead and we’re seeing new, fun, and innovative ways in which this style of play is being used. If Rhythm Sprout: Sick Beats and Bad Sweets sounds like a fun time or if you want a new genre to explore and think this might be an excellent way in; you’ll only have until the beginning of February to wait.
