Home Alone will celebrate its 33rd anniversary in 2023: the first part was released in theaters on December 21, 1990. Disney+ is the only streaming service where you can watch the films.
Even after 33 years, Home Alone remains one of the most popular Christmas movies. Most of the attention goes to parts one and two of the film series. Not too surprising: season three introduced a completely new cast. Moreover, Alex was never really alone for long. This dampened the tension level quite a bit, as well as the humorous side.
Home Alone (1990)
So for the first Home Alone Christmas film we have to look back to 1990. Kevin McCallister is accidentally left home alone in that film. Suddenly, young Kevin has to take care of himself, including tending to the household. What he and his parents do not know is that burglars are active in the neighborhood.
At least: Marv, who pretends to be a cop, informs them of the presence of criminals during a home visit. Not much attention is paid to this in all the hustle and bustle. Besides, they wouldn’t be home anyway.
During that vacation, Marv and fellow criminal Harry would strike at the McCallisters’ house. Kevin manages to put a stop to this in a humorous and insane way. He lures them into a trap and uses whatever household objects he can to outsmart them, including brother Buzz McCallister’s spider.
Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
With the second edition of Home Alone, which was published in 1992, the writers managed to outdo themselves. Not only the story but also the tension and sensation of a ‘lost child’ in New York makes it a film that attracts all the attention. The meeting of Kevin and the criminals is of course somewhat coincidental, but that does not actually detract from the story.
You constantly feel the threat of Marv and Harry: when would they show up again? But above all: how is Kevin going to outsmart them this time? The moments with the ‘Pigeon Woman’ and Mr. Duncan from Duncan’s Toy Chest, which will immediately make your heart shine.
What we can also only beam about is the quest of Kevin’s mother, Kate. They went on vacation in Florida, while Kevin ended up in New York. How the painful mistake ends? You can probably already fill in the answer yourself.
