Rashida Tlaib should call for Hamas to release hostages if she really wants peace

Rep. Rashida Tlaib has made it crystal clear where she stands on the Israeli war: She’s not on Israel’s side.

Still, she claims she wants “peace and justice” in the region.

Fine: Then let her make the release of more than 200 hostages (including Americans) a top priority.

So far, she’s been as quiet as a mouse on that.

Unlike her yelling and screaming (and crying) on behalf of Palestinians (a majority of whom, per a poll this year, support the group behind the murders, rapes and kidnappings, i.e., Hamas).

On Monday, Tlaib and 13 Democrats pushed a resolution urging the Biden administration to call for “immediate deescalation and cease-fire in Israel and occupied Palestine.” She never even mentioned the 200 victims being held hostage by Hamas.

“We all know collective punishment of Palestinians is a war crime. The answer to war crimes can never be more war crimes,” huffed Tlaib.

No one backs “war crimes” by anyone.

Yet her idea of “justice,” plainly, is letting Hamas terrorists commit massive, unspeakable atrocities — and then having everyone agree to a cease-fire, even with the hostages still in Hamas’ control.

And even when the terror group is bent on Israel’s destruction — and sure to launch more atrocities if it can.

Indeed, Tlaib only conceded that Hamas’ Oct. 7 attacks amount to “war crimes” once she was facing censure by the House (while claiming the censure was an effort to “silence” her).

In her initial response to Hamas’ savagery, she claimed “the failure to recognize the violent reality of living under siege, occupation and apartheid makes no one safer.”

That is, Israel deserved what it got.

That would be positively stomach-turning for anyone to say, let alone a member of the US Congress.

It gets worse: Even after overwhelming evidence that Palestinian terrorists in Gaza were responsible for an explosion at a Gazan hospital, Tlaib continued to falsely blame Israel for it.

Does she think riling up the Arab street with disinformation will promote “peace and justice”?

Oh, she also wants the United States to end “unconditional funding” to Israel. Even as it faces potential attacks on numerous fronts.

No matter. Despite all that, Tlaib pretends she’s fighting for “a just future where everyone can live in peace, without fear and with true freedom, equal rights and human dignity.”

OK, great: If she truly believes violence should not beget more violence — and if she wants peace in the Gaza Strip — let her lead the charge for Hamas to release the hostages it’s holding.

President Joe Biden has said getting the hostages released is his highest priority. Tlaib should publicly join in that effort.

But don’t bet on it.
