New ‘For You’ box makes YouTube channels more personal

Creator channels, the home pages of YouTube channels, will have a new For You section with recommended content from the YouTuber in question.

The update is somewhat reminiscent of the recommended content section on TikTok. It is of course designed to keep users watching for as long as possible. And since the profession promotes videos from the same channel, YouTubers can also benefit from it.

YouTube’s support account revealed the upcoming feature via a message on X. “We’re introducing the ‘For You’ section to your channel’s Home tab. A mix of your videos will be offered to viewers, based on their viewing history. Creators, please review your settings and choose your formats for the feature rollout on November 20,” it said.

For You box to personalize

So content creators can prepare for the addition of the For You box by turning its availability on or off on their channel and adjusting the layout of their YouTube account. This way they can choose whether only shorts, live streams or full videos should be shown.

YouTube already hinted at the new feature in May of this year, via its Creator Insider-channel. This is a hub where YouTube employees can communicate directly with YouTubers. Ann Katrin Kuessner, product manager at YouTube, praised the feature as an alternative to the static homepage. She stated that it does not make sense for the homepage of creators’ channels to look the same for everyone. According to Kuessner, this personalization will be most useful for channels that create content on various topics and in different languages and formats.
