My University of Virginia “Taboo Trades” Podcast on the “My Body, My Choice” Principle and its Implications

(Public Area)

I lately did a podcast on the “My Physique, My Alternative” precept, as a part of the College of Virginia “Taboo Trades” podcast sequence, run by UVA regulation Professor Kim Krawiec. I took questions on a wide range of subjects from Prof. Krawiec and a bunch of UVA regulation college students. They raised many insightful factors. Listeners can choose my solutions for themselves. The podcast audio is accessible right here.

Right here is the outline:

On this episode, George Mason Regulation’s Ilya Somin joins me and UVA Regulation college students Joseph Camano (’24) and Dennis Ting (’24) to debate the total implications of “My Physique, My Alternative.” Somin argues that the precept has implications that go far past abortion (together with paying kidney donors, and abolishing the draft and necessary jury service) and that each liberals and conservatives are inconsistent of their utility.

Prof. Krawiec helpfully included an inventory of hyperlinks to related writings by the 2 of us, that handle points raised within the podcast:

I notably advocate Krawiec’s wonderful article (coauthored with Philip J. Prepare dinner) arguing that, if we’re keen to pay individuals to play harmful sports activities, equivalent to soccer, we must also legalize organ markets. I’ve made comparable factors myself, however not in as a lot depth and element.
