Meet ‘Scary Barbie,’ a black hole slaughtering a star in the brightest way possible



Astronomers have detected one of many longest, brightest and most energetic cosmic objects ever noticed — and so they’ve named it “Scary Barbie,” partly because of its terrifying energy.

The distant object, an astonishingly brilliant flash of sunshine that has lasted for greater than two years, was found lurking inside an infinite knowledge set gathered by computer-guided telescopes.
