Barbecue spat about
setting, not race

Re: “BBQ Beck notoriety continues to resonate” (Web page A1, July 4).

This problem is a fraud.

Mr. Smith knew that utilizing a charcoal grill in that space was prohibited by the town of Oakland due to the noxious fumes generated by petroleum-based charcoal briquets and lighter fluid. He might have used a propane grill however determined that the foundations didn’t apply to him. He selected to make the argument that anticipating him to obey the foundations needed to do along with his race and never his air-polluting conduct.

He’s not George Floyd, he’s an attention-seeker wrapping himself within the critical problem of racial discrimination. Disgrace on the East Bay Instances for perpetuating this fraud.

Immediately’s residents
shouldn’t pay for slavery

Re: “Harvard admissions coverage favors kids of college alumni, says an activist group” (Web page A1, July 4).

Quote from entrance web page article. “Why are we rewarding kids for privileges and benefits accrued by prior generations? … Your loved ones’s final identify and the dimensions of your checking account aren’t a measure of benefit, and shouldn’t have any bearing on the faculty admissions course of.”

If I’ll paraphrase, “Why are we considering ‘punishing taxpayers‘ for wrongs and hurt accomplished by prior generations?”

Immediately’s residents had nothing to do with slavery.

Financial reparations
are an expensive dangerous thought

Re: “Activity drive suggests restitution for slavery” (Web page A1, June 30).

Financial reparation is a nasty thought, for the next causes:

1. The June 30 Evains article suggests the fee as $800 billion. The 2022 California census was about 39 million. The monetary value to every man, lady and little one can be about $20,500. We can not afford this. Native governments are hurting for extra revenue and our governor can not steadiness the state finances with out extreme cuts to main applications.

2. The article claims solely those that set up ancestry will get a payout. With DNA testing, each descendant of an emancipated slave can set up ancestry. The variety of claimants can be a lot increased than estimated.

3. California can not prohibit descendants in different states from transferring to and establishing residence in California in order to obtain a financial payout from California taxpayers.

cash nicely spent

Re: “By treasury secretary’s definition, it’s a recession” (Web page A7, June 16).

What EJ Antoni from the conservative Heritage Basis overlooked of his critique of Joe Biden’s economic system is that we have now very low unemployment and rising job development on this nation, plus a lowering inflation fee.
