The movie is widely regarded as a classic for various reasons, one of which is the introduction of the popular on-screen couple Raj and Simran, played by Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol respectively. However, initially, Shah Rukh was hesitant to accept the role as he was not interested in the typical Bollywood formula of performing songs in picturesque locations and running away with the girl. It reportedly took several meetings for first-time filmmaker Aditya Chopra to convince Shah Rukh to come on board, and the rest is history.
