Environmental groups sue US government over explosive SpaceX rocket launch

Environmental activists are suing the U.S. authorities to forestall any additional launches of SpaceX’s Starship rocket, following an explosive launch over a South Texas wildlife reserve.

The lawsuit — filed (opens in new tab) in a Washington, D.C., federal courtroom Monday (Could 1) — claims that Starship “scattered particles and ash over a big space” throughout its April 20 launch. The plaintiffs search to power the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the company answerable for regulating civil aviation within the U.S., into revoking Starship’s launch license, pending a yearslong environmental overview.
