Emirates makes record profit in the first half of the year

Like most major airlines, Emirates is currently benefiting from higher ticket prices combined with strong demand. Profits in H1 are more than double what they were last year (April to September 2022), when there was $1.1 billion left. For comparison: in the last six months prior to the pandemic, in 2019, profits amounted to $235 million.

Sales also rose this year, from $13.7 billion in 2022 to $16.2 billion today. In 2019, Emirates posted revenues of $12.9 billion in H1.

Passenger numbers have not yet reached pre-pandemic figures. Four years ago, Emirates carried 29.6 million travelers in six months, last year it was 20 million and this year 26.1 million. The company expects that the number of travelers will return to previous levels by 2024.

Due to the recovery, the airline is putting more and more A380s back into service. At the end of the half year (September 30), Emirates said 104 were back in operation, almost 90 percent of the total number of double-deckers in the fleet. This type is used, among other things, at Schiphol, together with the Boeing 777.

Emirates is part of the Emirates Group, which also includes Dnata, the airport service provider (also located at Schiphol). The group also reports a record profit of 2.7 billion dollars in H1 on a turnover of 18.3 billion. It can also be deduced from these figures that Emirates airline is by far the largest division of the state-owned company.
