More LAUSD classroom coaches? A teacher says it won’t work

To the editor: It is vitally alarming that the superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified Faculty District is redirecting funds away from the lauded Major Promise and is partially utilizing mentioned funds to rent 200 classroom coaches.

As a trainer in Southern California for practically 30 years, I’ve witnessed the outcomes of the teaching mannequin in my faculty district for a few years.

The teaching mannequin doesn’t work. Hiring coaches to enhance instruction doesn’t work.

The academics employed to educate are seldom specialists of their area, nor are they expert at bettering trainer efficiency. In all however just a few uncommon instances, they’re sharp-elbowed academics trying to escape the classroom.

Right here in my district, they refuse to substitute for classroom academics to supply extra planning time for us, and they’re universally much less expert at instruction than the academics they’re assigned to mentor.
