Why are insects attracted to artificial lights?

The basic summer season cookout comes with chips, drinks after which, after the solar goes down, swarms of bugs flitting round porch lights. However flying round synthetic lights can have lethal penalties for critters corresponding to moths, gnats and mosquitos; they’ll get trapped beneath lampshades and uncovered to predators corresponding to beetles, spiders, bats and birds. 

This “silly circling” may even distract bugs from objectives corresponding to consuming, mating and reproducing, mentioned Avalon Owens, a fellow at Harvard College. And synthetic lights could also be contributing to shrinking insect populations worldwide. So, given the dangers, why are bugs interested in synthetic lights?
