VanMoof launches Ride Pro subscription with theft protection

The ‘new’ VanMoof launched its Ride Pro subscription this week. This subscription includes theft protection and health features.

After the bankruptcy and the restart of VanMoof the Dutch e-bike brand seemed to say goodbye to its theft protection service Theft Proof. With this service, so-called Bike Hunters look for your electric bicycle in the event of theft. Although that decision has now been reversed and the Bike Hunters are active again, this only applies to the S5 and A5 e-bikes. In addition, the subscription is not available in Belgium at the time of publication. There is now one for owners of an S3, X3 or an older VanMoof model alternative: the Ride Pro subscription.

Ride Pro-subscription

The Ride Pro subscription allows users to track the location of their stolen or lost e-bike. In addition, they receive a notification when the e-bike’s alarm goes off, although this function is not available for the e-bike Electrified S/X or the Smartbike 2016. For the S5 and A5 models, the subscription offers additional functionalities: users can receive remote warnings, view the battery status and receive a notification if they walk away from their e-bike without locking it.

Link with health apps

Ride Pro also enables a connection between health apps and the VanMoof app. Users can sync their rides with Apple Health or Health Connect (Android). This links activities to other health data, such as heart rate, provided a smartwatch or other wearable sensor tracks this.

VanMoof emphasizes that users of the S3 and X3 can also track the location of their e-bike without a subscription. To do this, they must first report the bicycle as stolen, after which they will receive a tracking link by email. However, this is not possible for the A5 and S5 models; these users are dependent on the Ride Pro subscription. However, a 14-day trial subscription can be taken out to track the location of the bicycle.

A subscription is not necessary to switch off an e-bike remotely. This means that the electrical components are deactivated, causing the pedal assistance to disappear. This makes the bicycle virtually unsellable for thieves.

Availability and costs

According to VanMoof, the Ride Pro subscription is currently available for the S3 and X3. For these models, the subscription costs 10 euros per month or 100 euros per year. The subscription will be launched later for the A5 and S5, but an exact date has not yet been announced.
