The Public Prosecution Service, the police and 32 municipalities and various safety regions in North Holland conducted a major cyber attack exercise on Wednesday. Various scenarios were covered, including a ransomware attack.
The exercise should help the authorities to ‘better arm themselves against cybercrime’, the Prosecution Thursday. “Combating cybercrime requires a joint approach, also from the triangle of police, Public Prosecution Service and municipalities. In addition to combating this form of crime, being aware of the dangers is perhaps even more important, because prevention is better than cure. This cyber exercise is a good example of that,” writes deputy chief public prosecutor Corien Fahner.
Earlier this year, several websites of Dutch provinces, including the Province of North Holland, were hit by a DDoS attack. The attack resembled a series of previous attacks on, among others, the Chamber of Commerce and Maastricht Aachen Airport, RTV Noord wrote at the timeMany of the attacks have been claimed by Russia-affiliated hackers, in retaliation for the Netherlands’ support for Ukraine.
