Google: Don’t factory reset Pixel 6 too soon due to risk of bricking – Tablets & Phones – News

Google says Pixel 6 smartphone users should leave their phones powered on for 15 minutes after an update before performing a factory reset. Otherwise, the phone could brick. Google is working on a fix for already bricked phones.

The latest Pixel 6 software update ensures according to Google that the smartphone bricks when performing a factory reset and can no longer be used. Google advises users who want to perform a factory reset not to install the latest update. If it has just been installed and users want to reset the smartphone after the first reboot after the update, the smartphone may brick.

Google therefore advises users to leave the device alone for fifteen minutes after the first reboot after the software update. After the phone has been idle for fifteen minutes, users should perform a factory reset. Google says it is working on a solution for already bricked phones and says it will share more about this later. It says that the problem occurs with the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6a. The problem has been reported since the end of June.
