Facebook removes live streams that are older than 30 days

What is online is forever, except for your live streams on Facebook: they will disappear from now on after 30 days.

From February 19, Facebook will automatically delete live broadcasts after a period of 30 days. Users who place a live stream after this date must download their videos within this period to prevent them from being lost. Meta, Facebook’s parent company, states that the change is being implemented because “most live video views take place in the first weeks after the broadcast”. In addition, the company wants to better connect the storage guidelines to the standard in the industry and offer an improved live video experience to users.

The change is especially drastic for those who have many live streams online. All previously recorded live broadcasts that are older than 30 days will be removed after 19 February. Facebook will inform users in advance by e-mail and via app notes before the archives will definitively disappear. After receiving the notification, users are given 90 days to download or transfer their videos.

Save videos

Facebook offers various options for storing live video. Users can download their videos individually or in bulk within a modified date range. In addition, it is possible to transfer videos directly to a cloud service such as Dropbox or Google Drive.

Do you not have time to save your videos immediately? Then you can submit a postponement request and get six months extra to secure your videos. You can do this by tapping the report of the deletion, then clicking on ‘More information’ and then on ‘Display’. Individual videos can be downloaded by playing them on full screen and clicking on the three -point menu. There the option to download the recording appears.
