A nun, a gay Catholic on the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence

To the editor: I’m a Catholic Sister of the Holy Names — popularly known as a “nun.” As a Dodger fan because the workforce moved to Los Angeles, I’ve been to numerous video games and usually watch the workforce win and lose on TV. I miss Vin Scully (might he relaxation in peace).

The group CatholicVote doesn’t converse for me or lots of my sisters.

Growing older and now not in energetic ministry, I used to be happy to learn the mission assertion of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. They’re performing what we’ve got historically referred to as the corporal works of mercy. Those that feed the hungry, go to the sick and aged and take care of folks with AIDS ought to be honored for the methods they minister to folks.

The Dodgers shouldn’t give in to strain from anti-inclusion teams, which serve solely to divide reasonably than unite our society.

To the editor: There are usually not right-wing Catholics or left-wing Catholics. One can’t be Catholic “in his/her personal method.” In a world of passing fads and transitory ambitions, the knowledge of the Gospel will heal this world stuffed with violence and hate in opposition to human life.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is a fringe group that always parodies sacred Catholic rites in a really offensive method. As a homosexual Catholic man, I don’t agree with the group’s disrespectful and hurtful humor.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are usually not new to me. Although I discover their actions gross, within the curiosity of free speech I imagine they’ve a proper to exist — and I’ve the suitable to repudiate them. And that doesn’t make me right-wing or something.

We’re to imagine that Dodger followers are very upset as a result of the Sisters have been pulled from Delight Evening. I doubt that, particularly for Latino followers who love their Virgen de Guadalupe.

To the editor: The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence deserve affirmation and appreciation.

As a retired United Methodist pastor, I’ve been very grateful for this group. For seven years, the Sisters gave scholarships for adults to attend a church-sponsored retreat for individuals dwelling with HIV/AIDS. It was a pleasure to ahead their checks to the headquarters of our denomination.

The Sisters are worthy of recognition for his or her good work.

To the editor: Many Catholic Californians (together with me, who as soon as thought of being an precise nun) love and respect the artwork and neighborhood service of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. In their very own inventive method, they’re dwelling the Gospel of radical love.

Isn’t that why they have been going to be honored within the first place? For being of service to the neighborhood?

To this progressive Catholic, this entire state of affairs feels petty after we think about the true risks of our world: the local weather disaster, systemic racism, white Christian nationalism, company greed and extra.

Catholics are referred to as to be peacemakers and to like as Christ beloved. The Sisters are inventive peacemakers who love the neighborhood in a Christ-like method.
